Who did you vote for in the BERC election?
I voted Tangy. It seems like despite losing he pretty much got the job anyway, beyond drawing the stations.
You can no longer win the championship, but you can still snatch second. Where do you think you'll finish, and who will you support for the championship? Andi James, Peter Smyth, Martin Hazel, or Kevin Brown?
Honestly, if I move up at all from my current position in the championship I'll be happy. It's a shame I had to miss two of them, I hope to be able to attend the last two. As for who I want to win, I really don't mind. I like all the people that could win. If Rhys Benjamin [editor of Random 15 Tube] was in a chance of winning, however, I definitely wouldn't support him!
Your best results often come when you try a sneaky bus trick. Do the buses immediately become your "on foot" option rather than running?
Sneaky bus trick? Maybe I have used a couple of slightly inventive things, but it's never helped me win. Most of the buses tend to be fairly well known, and for me, they are always preferential to going on foot, as I am really slow, they save time and energy. If it's quicker to go on foot in a situation though, I will put my best effort into running. I've been doing a small bit of running outside tube challenges recently, and I hope it helps.
Finally, Andrew, which twist(s) did you vote for?
I voted for National Rail stations. I think the beauty of Random 15 Challenges (and other alternatives) is that they encourage movements that are not employed anywhere else. I think the addition of National Rail stations would encourage some really out of the box thinking, it would allow us to explore new stations, new buses, new runs, and also provide a tactical element, as some of the stations only receive a half-hourly service or less! This would ensure that routes would have to cater for this, the winner being the most strategic. This is the twist I most care about, although it might be nice to include a Zone expansion in conjunction with it. Perhaps just to Zone 3, just to include a bit of variety. I would be happy if the twist was modified slightly, perhaps to randomly select three or even fewer National Rail stations. Also, to avoid ambiguity, I think a station would need to be selected along with the method of visiting it. You get extremes, where National Rail connections can be made cross platform at Moorgate, or at an entirely separate station sharing the same name, like Bethnal Green.
Thank you for your time, Andrew.
Rhys Benjamin composed the questions.
